To maximize daily battery life of your district issued iPad, please try these techniques:
- Under Settings > General, please make sure the devices are updated to the latest version of iPad OS.
- Dim the screen to extend battery life
- Open Control Center > Display & Brightness, drag the slider to just slightly to the left of the center.
- Background Activity: This indicates that the battery was used by the app while it was in the background — that is, while you were using another app. To improve battery life, you can turn off the feature that allows apps to refresh in the background. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and either toggle off Background App Refresh or selectively choose which apps to turn off. You may want to leave Zoom, Kids A-Z, and Seesaw on, but you can play with toggling them on and off to see if you get better performance either way.
- Double click the home button periodically and swipe up to exit each app that you have opened
- Make sure that your student has exited the Zoom meeting when they are finished by clicking on the “end” button in the upper left corner and not just double clicking on the home button. Zoom takes up a lot of processing power. If a student doesn’t exit the meeting properly, Zoom will still be open and running.
- Go into both Safari and Chrome and close any tabs that you are no longer using
- Be sure to use the Apple charging “brick” that was given to you when you received the iPad. Using the small charging “brick” for an iPhone or an Android brand brick will not always work or charge as quickly.
